You have heard the saying that " insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting different results". I have definitely be insane in my life! Our brain is not wired to be different. It does not like change. It's so purpose is to keep us safe and away from fear. Fear being anything different. Anything that causes us to use any energy. It wants to keep us safe from all the scary things. Change is one of them.
Start the new year with a new thought. I like to think of something that I want to change. For instance, for the sake of half of mankind, you want to drop ten pounds. Don't laugh, this was probably my NEW YEAR resolution for almost 20 years. Never made it happen until I turned 48. Once I gave up that darn start-over mentality and changed a few things, it finally came off. What did I have to think and do to permanently lose the weight? Mine was "I love to feel good". I would rather feel good the rest of the day than eat the krispy kreme donut that will give me a dopamine hit that lasts about five minutes. Yes, it last about five minutes and I would feel like crap because of all the guilt.
Now, does that mean I can never enjoy a krispy kreme donut? No, I love them. It means that I have to plan for it-give myself permission to fully enjoy it without guilt. (I call it a "fun eat" in my programs). This is how I enjoy cookies at Christmas with my coffee. The entire week, I enjoy one maybe two every morning thru the week and totally without any guilt-pure enjoyment.
My thought this year is I love to cook new things. I do not cook new things or very seldom. I tend to do the same comfortable things. Not this year! I am trying on a new thought "I so enjoy trying new recipes" ....hmm. Not sure if it feels right. I might have to tweak it. Going to work on it this week.
Happy New YEAR! Make 2024 your best year ever. Yep, even if you are over fifty. Keep reaching✨✨
