In the hustle and bustle of our everyday life, it's easy to overlook the simple joys that can bring immense happiness. Especially for women who are aging and taking notice of all the little changes in their bodies. Finding contentment in small moments becomes even more essential. In this blog, I aim to celebrate and encourage the incorporation of fun experiences into your daily routine, fostering a sense of joy and fulfillment. It only takes a few changes in our routine to add more fun and joy to our lives. Don't blow this off. Give it some thought. It has done wonders for me and know it can do it for others.
Here is what I believe has done wonders for me:
👑Morning Rituals: Start your day with a plan. Get up a little earlier to plan a few joyful morning rituals. Savor a cup of coffee, take a moment to stretch, and embrace the tranquility of a sunrise. Sit by a window and bring in nature. I am amazed at how calming this is. Engaging in mindfulness exercises such as journaling. It does work. Writing about your thoughts and examining if the thoughts are useful or even true. I refer to this on my calendar as me time. Even if we are on vacation, I do this. I love my me time.
🌸Connect with Nature: Spending time outdoors can be incredibly rejuvenating. Whether it's a leisurely walk in the park, gardening, or simply sitting on your porch and appreciating the beauty of nature, these moments can bring a sense of peace and connection. Get outside daily some how. If you work in an office, when weather permits, eat lunch outside. We need sunshine. I walk to the mailbox is a go-to of mine. I stand there for a few moments and breath in the fresh air. It is amazing how good it makes me feel.
Cultivate Hobbies: Rediscover the hobbies that bring you joy. Whether it's painting, reading, knitting, or learning a new skill, dedicating time to activities you love can be immensely satisfying. Something as simple as doing puzzles can be relaxing and good for our brain. Louis and I enjoy playing games with each other. We even pack games when we go on a cruise. Find a hobby that you can do to relax and have fun. I always have a book I am reading. Sometimes two.
Laughter: Laughter is a powerful antidote to stress. Surround yourself with people who make you laugh, indulge in a favorite comedy, or even watch funny videos. The simple act of laughing can boost your mood and create lasting memories. I will search for funny movie scenes and you will be surprised how your mood will change. Laughter is a healing power.
Gratitude Journaling: Take a few moments each day to reflect on the positive aspects of your life. Keeping a gratitude journal can shift your focus towards the blessings and achievements, no matter how small. This practice promotes a positive mindset and appreciation for the present. If you are not a journal person, then find a time of day that you sit for a few minutes and be mindful of all the good in your life. Even is it is “I have a body that is breathing”. I once had someone tell me she felt nothing was good and I said well you are breathing and she did have to laugh.
Nourish Your Body: Prioritize self-care by choosing nourishing foods and staying hydrated by drinking your water. Experiment with new recipes or restaurants. A well-nourished body contributes to our happiness. How do we feel after we eat junk food? Well, the drama starts to happen in our brains. Adding nutrient-dense foods to our daily lives can have an enormous lift in our spirit.
Dance Like Nobody's Watching: Turn up the music and dance like nobody's watching. Physical activity, combined with the joy of movement, can be a liberating experience. Sounds corny but this works wonders. I will dance while I am cooking and I love it.
In closing, limit your time on your phone scrolling. I find it can zap us out of living life. Consuming too much can make us feel uneasy, especially news. Even social media can leave us feeling exhausted.
Find more joy in the little things!
This is a picture from several years ago of Louis and I being silly at a friend's son's wedding. We danced and had a blast.
