We always have “unintentional” life events going on. As women, we have become super-pros at dealing with these events. Some might be small, such as a case of the flu or some have been large like a divorce. Whatever it is, we seem to get through with courage and grace. And, the good thing that usually comes from these events is that it makes us stronger. Some of the unintentional events are good. Maybe a surprise visit or a promotion at work. These are pure gifts and most always fun.
Life is a series of events, some unplanned and some intentional. Last week, we delved into unintentional events and how they shape our lives. Today, let’s shift our focus to intentional life events. These are the moments we consciously create to bring joy, meaning, and fulfillment into our lives. Whether it's a celebration, a personal milestone, or a new adventure, planning intentional events can enrich our lives in profound ways.
Why do intentional events matter? Here are a few reasons:
Create Memories: Planning and experiencing events with intention ensures that we make memories that will last a lifetime. I know that my little nephews will remember the ‘cannonballs’ in the pool and the visits to the zoo.
Foster Connection: These events often involve loved ones, strengthening our bonds and creating shared experiences.
Promote Personal Growth: Stepping out of our routine to create intentional moments can lead to personal insights and growth.
Increase Joy: By planning events that align with our passions and values, we bring more joy into our lives.
My husband asked to visit his aunt and where he grew up when he retired. So, we planned a short trip to St. Joseph Mo. We are here now and going with the flow. While planning is essential, be open to spontaneity. Allow for unexpected moments of joy and connection and remember that the goal is to create a meaningful experience, not perfection. This is huge! Don’t try to make it perfect as we seem to do as women. Our plans for this trip have been altered due to the weather and it is okay. Five years ago, I would have been frustrated that not all has gone to plan. No more. I have learned life is too short to let the small stuff bother me. Things will most likely not go as planned. Be okay with that. Most importantly, be present and mindful. Don’t let the picture-taking get in the way either lol. Engage fully with the experience and the people around you. Capture memories through photos, journaling, or simply reflecting afterward. This is my husband with his eight-two year old aunt.
Intentional life events are a way to take control of our time and create moments that truly matter. By setting clear intentions, planning with purpose, and embracing flexibility, we can craft experiences that bring joy, foster connections, and promote personal growth. So, take a moment to think about what intentional event you can plan next. Whether it’s a big celebration like a party or a quiet retreat, make it something that resonates with your heart and brings light to your life.
Planning intentional life events can transform the mundane into the magical. What intentional event will you create next?
Have a beautiful day!
